Thank you for your comments. Can you provide a link to the essay you mentioned? I made a brief effort with Google and Bing and did not find it. I would love to read it.

The film, I think is about Nietzsche's Three Metamorphoses of Spirit: how the camel becomes a lion, and the lion a child. The film is about affirming life; which is the message of Nietzsche's philosophy. See Moritz Schlick essay The Meaning of Life for the Nietzschean clue to Little Miss Sunshine.

I agree with your comments about destruction; I think it's more about deconstruction. Because this leads surely to a re-examination of our core belief systems and the eventual reconstruction of something more autonomous. Maybe man can after all be an island, if he takes responsibility for building the boats that provide connection when necessary.

I originally thought the movie wasn't so great. It seemed to be only, a move that attempted to be as "indie" or as "Napoleon Dynamite" as possible. I predicted a lot of the things that did happen, and it wasn't hard because anything that could possibly go wrong, did. The son was colorblind, the grandpa died, the car broke... on and on.

After reading your review, however, I can see that a lot more thought and meaning was put into it than I first thought. I appreciate reading this and bringing a different perspective on the movie. I can understand more why people liked it more than i did.

Incredible, informed, and informative commentary. You've really put your finger on the exact reason why this is such a likable film.
